아렌트의 권위 개념으로 본 교사 권위의 교육적 의미 : 영화 <괴테의 사고뭉치들>과 <디태치먼트>를 소재로
본 논문의 목적은 교사의 권위에 담긴 교육적 의미를 아렌트의 권위 개념을 통해 고찰하는 데 있다. 이때 교사의 권위는 책임의 요소로 정당화될 수 있다는 것을 강조하고자 한다. 아렌트는 근대에 이르러 발생한 전통적 권위의 상실이 교육에 영향을 미쳐 교육을 통해 이어온 과거의 영역에 대한 존경과 전수에 대한 책임이 사라지고 그 결과 교사의 권위도 상실되고 있다고 보았다. 교사의 권위 상실은 교육에 중대한 문제들을 일으킨다. 교사의 권위가 바로 서고 존중과 책임으로 채워질 때 교육은 비로소 잘 이뤄질 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 아렌트의 관점에서 보면, 교사의 권위 확립에 있어 존중만으로는 불충분하며 세계와 학생들을 이어줄 책임의 요소가 확보되어야 한다. 이와 같은 견해를 바탕으로 이 연구는 교사의 권위 상실에 기인한 다양한 교육 문제와 권위 회복을 위한 방향성을 제시하기 위해 독일 영화 <괴테스쿨의 사고뭉치들>과 미국 영화 <디태치먼트>를 소재 삼아 분석하였다. 두 영화는 현재의 교육 현실과 교사의 권위 상실 문제를 마주하게 하고 진정한 교육이란 무엇인가에 대한 시사점을 그려낸다. 연구자들은 영화에 담긴 교사의 권위 상실 현상과 교사와 학생 사이의 문제를 탐구하고, 교사의 권위가 갖는 교육적 의미를 아렌트의 권위 개념에 담긴 책임의 측면에서 고찰하였다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 상실된 교사의 권위에 담긴 의미를 책임의 방식으로 파악하는 것을 돕고 그것에 대한 대안과 새로운 시각을 제시하는 데 그 의의가 있다.
The Educational meaning of teacher's authority focusing on Hannah Arendt's concept of authority : Based on the movie and
The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the elements of responsibility necessary for the teacher’s authority by examining the educational meaning contained through Arendt's concept of authority. Arendt saw that the loss of traditional authority in modern times influenced education and the authority of teachers, eliminating the responsibility. It creates significant problems in education. Education can only be done well when the authority of teachers is filled with respect and responsibility. However, from Arendt's point of view, respect alone is insufficient in establishing the authority of teachers, responsibility must be secured. Based on this view analyzing the films ‘Fack Ju Göhte, Suck Me Shakespeare’, and ‘Detachment’ in the study can be very useful in clarifying educational problems and phenomena. These films shows the current educational reality and the problem of losing the authority of teachers, and draws implications for what true education is. To explored the meaning of teacher's authority in terms of responsibility through Arendt’s concept of authority in education using the films will help present a new perspective on it.
