Interkulturelle Begegnungen im Reiseblog “In leisen Tönen - Ein Roadtrip durch Südkorea”
우리는 문화 간 교류가 점점 더 빈번하게 일어나는 세계화되고 네트워크화 된 세상에 살고 있다. 그러나 이러한 만남이 언제나 순조롭지만은 않으며 언제나 갈등이 발생할 여지가 있다. 평화롭고 생산적인 공존을 위해서는 자신의 관점으로 이질적인 문화를 소화하는 동시에 자신의 문화를 되돌아보는 자세가 필요하다. 낯선 것에 대한 이해와 공감을 할 수 있는 상호문화역량의 함양이 목표가 되어야 할 것이다. 이러한 맥락에서 기행 문학의 이해와 연구가 의미가 있다. 인류의 역사에서 여행은 경험한 것을 기록하는 것으로 이어지곤 했다. 이는 개인의 경험을 가공하여 공유할 수 있음을 의미한다. 따라서 문화 간 만남을 다룬 글을 분석함으로써 많은 것을 배울 수 있다는 것에 의미가 있다고 하겠다. 기행 문학 장르는 다양한 면모를 띠며 또 끊임없이 새로운 영향을 받아 발전하고 있다. 인터넷시대에 여행 블로그는 점점 인기를 얻고 있으며 기존의 출판 기행문과 나란히 탄탄한 입지를 구축했다. 그런데도, 지금까지 독일의 학계에서 여행 블로그와 상호문화성을 연결지은 연구를 거의 찾아보기 힘들다. 특히 문화적 거리가 멀어 연구할 가치가 있는 독일과 한국에 대한 논의는 매우 부족하다. 이 연구는 바로 이 학문적 여백을 채우고자 노력한다. 본 연구에서는 2019년 9월 한국을 방문한 두 독일인의 여행 블로그를 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 서로 다른 문화를 대표하는 자들이 만나 오해나 갈등까지 생길 수 있는 이른바 중요사건(critical incidents)을 조사 한다. 주인공이 그런 상황을 어떻게 인식하고 이에 어떻게 반응하는지를 살펴보았다. 서로 다른 문화적 기준의 관점에서 상황을 조명해봄으로써 하나의 갈등상황을 두고 가능한 해석의 복잡한 층위를 들어내어 재해석의 가능성을 열어주고 결국 상호문화역량의 습득을 가능케 한다.

We live in a globalized, networked world where cross-cultural interactions are more and more increasing. These interactions, however, do not always go smooth and have potential for conflict. In order to allow for peaceful and productive interactions, it would be essential to take a look into cultures that seem alien from one’s own perspective, but also to reflect on one’s own. The aim is to develop intercultural skills that create understanding and empathy for something that is alien. In this regard, the reception of travel literature is recommended. In the history of mankind, travel has always been linked with documenting experiences so that experiences could be processed and presented. An analysis of documentation relating to intercultural encounters is therefore very useful as one can learn a lot from them. The genre of travel literature is diverse and constantly exposed to new triggers. In the age of the Internet, travel blogs have become increasingly popular and have maintained a strong position next to conventional books. Nonetheless, the combination of travel blog and interculture has barely played a role in German cultural studies to date. In particular, there is very limited coverage on Germany and South Korea which due to their deep cultural gaps could be a worthwhile and interesting topic. This article aims to close a research gap. The underlying analysis focuses on a travel blog of two Germans who are visiting South Korea in September 2019 and which examines so-called “critical incidents” where different cultural standards clash leading up to misunderstandings or even conflicts. The analysis revolves around how the protagonists in this case perceive such situations and how they respond to them. Illustrating the situation from the point of views of various different cultural standards can show how an “assumed” conflict situation can raise various possible interpretations which creates room for reinterpretation and thus allows one to build up intercultural skills.
